He became internationally famous in the early 1960s as one of the leaders of the British Pop Art movement. In the 1960s he was known for his ‘swimming pool’ paintings, for elaborate stage sets during the '70s and for photo collages during the '80s. He continues to be one of the world’s most popular and versatile artists and was made a Companion of Honour in 1997 and is also a Royal Academician.
