Textiles Workshops to celebrate the textiles innovator and pioneer, Althea McNish. Born in Trinidad and inspired by the colours and forms of nature. Althea changed the face of British textiles. Her influence can still be seen today.
These workshops take their inspiration from the current exhibition at The William Morris Gallery curated by Rose Sinclair and sponsored by Liberties.
Each day is a separate event where you will learn how to:
Make your own fabric paint.
Experiment with different fabric paints.
Create works on fabric and paper inspired by Althea’s beautiful, innovative textiles.
Clare Roberts is a local artist and trained art teacher with over 20yrs experience. Clare will encourage you to experiment to create beautiful textile designs inspired by the great Althea, who took her inspiration from the colourful flora of her home, Tobago.
This will be a fun, creative workshop learning about the working practices of the innovative trail blazer Althea McNish
