Character Design and Illustration Workshop with Craig Phillips Illustrator and co founder of Wildling Books Craig Phillips will teach students how to build convincing characters with methods he uses for all his comic book and illustration work.

We will start with animals and move on to fantastical creatures, using simple but effective methods to construct characters.

Craig Phillips Illustrator and co founder of Wildling Books

Craig Phillips has been illustrating covers and interior art for the US and Australian publishing industries for two decades. He has drawn rock posters for the Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age, drawn books for authors such as Neil Gaiman, and created book covers for Random House, Penguin, Hardie Grant, Hachette, Bloomsbury, Walker Books, Scholastic, Allen & Unwin, Oxford University Press and many more. 

His graphic novel Giants, Trolls, Witches, Beasts: Ten Tales from the Deep, Dark Woods was the recipient of the NZ Book Awards/Russell Clark Award for Best Book Illustration 2018, Gold Ledger Awards for Excellence in Comics 2018, Notable Book in the Children's Book Council of Australia 2018 and finalist in the Aurealis Awards for Speculative Fiction 2018. His latest book, Aroha's Way, currently sits in the top ten in the New Zealand best selling picture books, as well as in the top ten best selling independent books. 

Craig also presents and gives drawing workshops for literary festivals nationally and internationally.
