A selection of recent three-dimensional drawings by Charles Poulsen on show in Messums Wiltshire's Long Gallery
Charles Poulsen’s large-scale three-dimensional drawings are realised in layers of pencil, wax and gouache to create striking abstractions that capture the energy of drawing as a primary means of expression. As we continue to champion the finest exponents of the handmade working across genre, we are delighted to present a series of Poulsen’s abstracted drawings – pieces that seem to capture invisible energies and internal organic forces of growth.
“The drawings start with a square sheet of paper and a drawn square frame within. The square is chosen for its stability, calmness and because there is not the same association with landscape or the portrait of a rectangle.” At five feet squared, a selection of Poulsen’s recent drawings will be installed as a solo exhibition in our Long Gallery, as a celebration of the immediacy and directness of drawing and to coincide with the nationwide Big Draw Festival, this October.
