Explore different ways to create children’s books and consider character design, narrative, illustrating a text, page composition and the creation of a compelling fictional ‘world’. Drawing games will introduce a range of illustration styles. By the end of the course you will develop a character and a short-illustrated narrative sequence.  

All basic materials provided for this workshop (heavier weight papers available at cost price), although we recommend bringing your own brushes if you have them. Please bring an apron or wear clothes suitable for an art studio. You may wish to bring in something to take wet work home.

Participants must be 16 or over.If you have a disability, learning difficulty or mental health issue which you feel may affect your participation in your chosen class, please either email drawingschool@rwa.org.uk or call 0117 906 7606, prior to booking, so we are aware of any needs you may have. If you need to bring a Carer or Support Worker with you to the class, please inform us when enrolling so we can make arrangements. The RWA has disabled access through its main entrance and level access to the cafe and shop on the Ground Floor. There is lift access to the Main Galleries on the First Floor as well as access to the Long Gallery and accessible toilet on the Lower Ground Floor. If you require the use of the Accessible Parking space please contact front desk on: 0117 973 5129.

Cancellation Policy: If you cancel your booking within 3 weeks of the start of the course or workshop you will not be eligible to receive a refund, nor will you be eligible to transfer to another course/workshop unless we can find someone to take your place on your original booking. Family Friendly Facilities: Families and school groups are always welcome at the RWA. Entry for under 16s is free and the aim is to encourage participation from all our visitors and to instil in them a love of art! The RWA provides level access into the building and ground floor cafe/shop, a lift for pushchairs to reach our first floor galleries, and the baby change toilets and exhibition spaces on the basement level. They are happy to look after your buggy if you’d like to leave it by reception while you look around.
Accessibility:
The RWA has disabled access through its main entrance and level access to the cafe and shop on the Ground Floor.
