KIRKTON BIG DRAW WEEKEND

An exciting weekend of sensory drawing activities for the whole community featuring local artists and musicians.
Through september and October Sarah has been collaborating with community groups in Lochalsh, devising fun sensory drawing sessions. The groups include Plockton Piano Club with Peter MacLaren, Saturday Art Club, Airdferry Resource Centre, Kyleakin Connections, Lochalsh Life Drawing and Skye Circus Skills. She has also devised a weekend of events in Kirkton Church Hall and will be joined by reknowned musicians and artists.

𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄𝟭𝟭:𝟯𝟬-𝟭𝗽𝗺 SENSORY ART: with Sarah's Art Club. Sound: Exploring ways to depict different sounds, including Birdsong, through mark-making. Sight: Blind drawing (drawing without looking at the page) and other fun exercises to encourage us to look closely at the world around us. Touch, Smell and taste will be used in a variety of different ways using familiar objects. There will be a myriad of exciting media to work with and maybe have a bash on a drum yourself!𝟭:𝟯𝟬-𝟮:𝟯𝟬𝗽𝗺 OUTDOOR SENSORY ART: we will go outside with drawing boards (weather permitting) and do some observational drawing, trying to engage all our senses. This will culminate in a large 'Sound map' to which everyone can contribute.𝟯-𝟱𝗽𝗺 SOUND & VISION: Musicians and artists are going to join us for a colourful and exciting drawing session.Then virtuoso musicians 𝗥𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻 and 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 Wilkins will play violin and concertina for some experimental mark-making. 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻 beloved music teacher, pianist will play a thrilling programme of music he's devised (including some of his own pieces) while Sarah directs a large scale group drawing on the floor. Finally innovative composer 𝗥𝘂𝗳𝘂𝘀 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘁 will take the lead and we will have some fun inventing our own musical notations for the musicians to perform.
𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄
𝟭𝟭:𝟯𝟬-𝟭𝗽𝗺 PRINT-MAKING: Exploring repeated patterns in art and music using potato prints, hands and feet!
𝟭:𝟯𝟬-𝟯𝗽𝗺 SENSORY ART: activities using lots of different media including ink and sticks and drawing from nature.
𝟯-𝟰:𝟯𝟬𝗽𝗺 POLLOCK-JAZZ: action painting. please wear non-precious clothes. Abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock listened to jazz while he made his famous drip paintings. We will make a large communal drippy picture in this fun session.
𝟱-𝟴𝗽𝗺 EXHIBITION-CEILIDH: Come and see the amazing artwork. Snacks and drinks provided plus a chance to do some more drawing and hopefully some live music. Bring an instrument!
