Suffolk Archives Drawing Competition
Part of NessFest
Online
Suffolk Archives are taking part in Nessfest 2020 with a drawing competition
NessFest is a Youth Arts Festival which takes place in Lowestoft on Tuesday 27th October with free art activities aimed exclusively at 11-19 year olds.
There are two age categories, 11-14 and 15-19. Winning entrants will receive a selection of art materials.
As an archive, we keep records of what it has been like to live in Suffolk across nine centuries, and drawings are an important part of those records. This challenge is to capture something you have noticed or experienced in the Lowestoft area, inspired by Richenda Cunningham’s drawings. You might want to draw:- Somewhere in your local area where you have seen change or climate change
- Nature in your local area or even in your back garden
- the locations that Richenda drew in the 1840s around Lowestoft
Richenda Cunningham lived in Lowestoft, and came from a prominent family of Quakers, the Gurneys. Richenda’s formal art training began at 10 years old, and she continued to draw throughout her life. We hold a sketchbook of Richenda’s work that shows Lowestoft and the surrounding area in the 1840s.
