Workshop: Abstracted Animated Loops
Gretchen Lawrence and Coumba Samba
with Eye to Pencil
Part of Evening Workshops
Eye to Pencil Studio
Join artists Gretchen Lawrence and Coumba Samba for an abstract animation workshop inspired by anti-style graffiti and abstract art.
If traditional animation is rooted in film and focuses on scenes imitating life, experimental animation is the complete opposite. Gretchen and Coumba lead us to discover the beauty of minimal production, amateur aesthetics and nonlinear storytelling. In this abstract animation workshop we will make 12 frame loops inspired by anti-style graffiti and abstract art.
Tues, 19 March, 6.30-8.30pm
Materials are included£10. Note: STUDENT/UNWAGED discount of 33% Use the code: student-33 at checkout Location: Studio, 26 Exmouth Market, EC1 4QEAccess: The studio is on the 1st floor with no lift
Evening workshop format: In this Spring Term of Evening Workshops a flurry of young artists join us in the studio with their ideas on drawing. Looking at the abilities and limitations the medium brings us we will be exploring ideas from girlhood to cartography. We hope to see you join us for abstract animation, collaborative drawing , interpreting the internet and more. Evening Workshops are on every Tuesday from 6.30-8.30pm.
Gretchen is an Estonian performance and audio-visual artist working with found objects, flicker animation and digital media. Coumba is an American interdisciplinary artist. Her work is rooted in studying process, hybridity, materiality and modes of visual communication. Sharing a collaborative practice, they work with collage, sculpture, music and animation. They showed their collaborative installation Cityscape (2023) in Emalin, London UK. Their ongoing project is called NEW YORK, a pop music and performance project, in which they experiment with sampling of royalty free loops, impulsive lyrics and animated music videos. NEW YORK self-released their debut album No Sleep Till N.Y. in 2022.
