Part of Evening Workshops
Eye to Pencil Studio
This workshop led my artist Saul Smith invites us into a game of drawn Chinese Whispers, exploring the process of translation into drawing.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
How do drawings encode
information/memory? How can this be confused when it's passed between
people? In a game of drawn Chinese Whispers we’ll use ‘headlines’
translating these visually through drawing. The translations and
conversations around the drawings will develop through iterations and
stories, looking at what gets lost in translation and how did we get
there?
Materials are included.
Tues, 10 October, 6.30-8.30pm
Location: Studio, 26 Exmouth Market, EC1 4QE
Access: The studio is on the 1st floor with no lift
*Note: STUDENT/UNWAGED discount of 33%

Evening workshop format: Our series of Evening workshops will focus on
extending drawing through low-tech, low cost, DIY techniques. The creatives
leading each workshop are young and emerging, yet each is working in a strong
and accomplished way with their approach and materials. Curated by Issey Kang.
WHO
Anyone who is interested in drawing or who draws but would like to try out new
materials and techniques centred on drawing.
BIO
Saul
grew up and lives in South-East London and just graduated from BA Fine
Art at Goldsmiths. His practice primarily works through installation
exploring relationships between truth and fiction and memory. Often
these are formally situated in the middle of ideas of a stage and an
archive… which try to find the liminal, hopeful extra-ordinariness
within everyday, neo-liberal mundanity and totalitarianism. He’s
interested in how small things are interlinked with big things!
