WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Violet invites us to understand and
reciprocate her process of adopting drawing to create animation.
Participants are asked to bring one or more flat objects to create
rubbings on rice paper, alongside a snacks, an important part of her
practice. Violet will demonstrate different styles and techniques of
creating rubbings such as background texture, superimposing, colour
changing, and the use of different weights and density. All of these
techniques can transform one image into multiples to build frames. At
the end of the workshop we will scan everyones’ drawings so that Violet
can edit them into an animation. These animated compositions will later
be shared with each participant.
Materials are included.

BIO
Violet
Cheverez is an artist based in New York City, her areas of focus are
animation and video art. She works in many different media - from
drawing, collage, and photography, to screenprinting and airbrushing.
She combines these forms in compositions of animated sequences. The
materials that are initially used for frames of her animations become
remnants, and are reworked into physically collaged documents and books.
