Workshop: Tom Robertshaw - Drawing complex structures
Eye to Pencil
with Tom Robertshaw
Eye to Pencil Studio
As a structural engineer, Tom Robertshaw spends his days exploring how creative structures can be made real. His workshop will place us in the mindset of an engineer, as he discusses how freehand drawing can be used in different ways at different stages of a design process.
As a professional engineer, one needs to turn ideas into tangible
reality considering amongst other things, the materials, the available
technology, and the craftsmanship and trades available to work with.
This workshop will turn a concept into sketches and drawings which will
be a step into realising how it could actually be constructed, thinking
it through like an engineer.
As a director of GL&SS, a leading
engineering consultancy, Tom Robertshaw spends his days exploring how
creative structures can be made real. Among other things Tom will
discuss the difference between drawing to problem solve and drawing to
communicate, at different stages of a design process.
This talk will suit architects, designers, engineers, artists, and students and professionals from the creative industries who would like to improve their drawing skills and their understanding of the potential drawing has as a medium.
