Drawing from Nature at Robbeburg International Playgroup
To celebrate this years Big Draw festival in the Netherlands over 80 young children took part in a week of activities at Robbeburg International Playgroup in Amsterdam.
Over five days groups worked together to design and draw a collaborative piece of art inspired by nature and the theme of ‘It’s Our World’. The materials selected were chosen so that there was something for every age group, with thick wax crayons for the babies and watercolour pencils for the older ones. Everyone had a go, including the parents and the older brothers and sisters who came along during the half term break.
This is the second time that Robbeburg has hosted the Big Draw and this year Earlyarts UK supported the project, including providing materials and ideas. As an award winning organisation they bring specialist knowledge and expertise to developing resources and learning strategies for young people with a particular focus on creative play.
The Director of Earlyarts, Ruth Churchill Dower said, ‘I’ve been thrilled to see the exciting work of the Big Draw opening up creative learning environments for young children and their families. We hope that all those who took part in the Big Draw at Robbeburg will continue their creative explorations at home for many months to come’.
Sem Hillenius, a parent of a 22 month year old boy said ‘We are bringing our son up in a bilingual household, so it is lovely for him to play and learn in this kind of setting, and to have the chance to be part of a UK festival of drawing’
The work created by the children and adults will be on display at the playgroup from November 2014
