The Big Dune Draw at Gwithian: by The Friends of The Towans Art Club and the Dynamic Dunescapes project.
Join us for the Big Dune Draw at Gwithian, as we take part in our second Big Draw Festival to celebrate the second year of the Friends of The Towans Art Club.
Please meet at 12.30 for 1-3pm, to join artists Hilary Jean Gibson and Dominica Williamson at Gwithian Chapel to take part in our 'Big Dune Draw'. We'll explore the 2023 Big Draw Festival theme
#DrawingwithSenses which “changes the focus from external to internal, exploring the way we personally process the world and internalise our experiences through our senses. This is a great year to look at the 5 basic senses: Touch, Sight, Sound, Taste and Smell, and experiment with these to transform your experiences into creative work and drawings”.
Meet Hilary Jean Gibson and Dominica Williamson at Gwithian Chapel at 12.30 p.m. to draw on the Local Nature Reserves of Gwithian Green and St Gothian Sands, experiencing the flora, landscape and sea in their Autumn colours. Using all our senses we will learn how to really see and embrace the landscape, engaging with external sensations and inner feelings while we observe, reflect and draw. Come and join us to share a fun, surprisingly revealing and relaxing event. All welcome, please bring a sandwich and a drink, something to sit on and appropriate footwear. Suggest you wear layers, hat and fingerless gloves.
We will all go out and draw together - adults, children and families, with some instruction at the start from Hilary and Dominica who will both guide the session and be there if help and inspiration are needed. Please bring your own materials with you, including paper/ sketchbook, pencils, coloured pencils, etc. or ask if you would like to borrow these.
Gwithian Chapel will be open from 12.30 until 5:30pm, with an exhibition of work created previously by adults, children and families at various locations in our beautiful Towans; including En Plein Air drawing at Mexico Towans, sunsets at St Gothian Sands and botanical illustration by families and young people at Gwithian Green Nature Reserve. If you've joined us before then we want to include your artwork in this display, so please bring drawings and sketchbooks to the Chapel at 12.30 or get in touch in advance. Artwork will be returned at the end of the day.
As the event is both a chance to participate in the Big Draw Festival and a celebration of the second year of the FOTT Art Club, tasty tea treats will be served in Gwithian Chapel at 3.30pm, so you can chat and enjoy the end of the day in style!
