NEATEN Arboretum BIG GREEN DRAW
with Durham Sixth Form Centre and friends
Part of NEATEN
Durham Sixth Form Centre
The NEATEN Big Draw tree Arboretum will be a mainly online event but with some location based work- if Covid 19 allows.
Through a dedicated Facebook group, we will be live launching an event where people, friends and families can work from home or outdoor spaces to create their trees for our Arboretum. We will also have artist led events happening concurrently in other spaces, including the Durham Sixth Form Centre where students will work with artist in residence Lizzie Lovejoy, The Shipley Gallery in Gateshead and a special virtual workshop from Baltic with artist Bethan Maddocks who will share her paper-based practice and show you how she creates artwork by drawing with scissors to create large sculptures made from paper. In this short video, Bethan will show participants how to fold and cut their own miniature 3D forests. You will find Bethan and Lizzie on our dedicated YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR-XeF65vtKADk-JQTtaf9Q?fbclid=IwAR1srC1cql2BZSrU_lXUBVNfRdEN1XKoz_...
We also have a SSE sign language explanation of the Arboretum on our dedicated YouTube channel, designed for young people with a hearing impairment: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR-XeF65vtKADk-JQTtaf9Q?fbclid=IwAR1srC1cql2BZSrU_lXUBVNfRdEN1XKoz_...
You can make your trees indoors or outdoors in the open air and socially distanced. Talking of which, NEATEN will also be on the beach in Amble, Northumberland, making a large tree and hopefully streaming images from there. Jill and Amanda will lead this event and the location is : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.3554096,-1.6114626,2477m/data=!3m1!1e3
What can you make a tree from ? Anything! We made one from paper, from toys, from socks, from sea glass, you could use leaves outside, you could use uncooked spaghetti indoors, think what you could do with all the shoes in the house. What about playing with string or wool? What about making a human tree? Get your scarves and gloves together for a winter tree....we have no doubt that you will be creative. UPLOAD TO OUR FACEBOOK GROUP "The NEATEN Aboretum" https://www.facebook.com/groups/355420358986626 or to our Twitter and Instagram accounts @NEATENart
We will also have downloadable resources on our Facebook page and on other social media spaces connecting to our TREE theme. We will let the making continue over the half term holiday and collate all the images afterwards. We will use Facebook, Zoom,Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to communicate, collaborate and create. Our Facebook page has gone live now, before our event starts. We have something for everyone and real challenge to you to make your tree in a way that nobody else has managed!
